Edavaka Mission

"When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will be filled with power, and you will be witnesses for me in Jerusalem, in all Judaea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." — Acts 1:8

Who We Are

The Edavaka Mission is the branch of the Mar Thoma Voluntary Evangelists Association (M.T.V.E.A.) whose activities are centered in the parish. At St. Peters Mar Thoma Church, Washington Township, New Jersey, the Edavaka Mission stands as the heartbeat of evangelical witness and community outreach — a fellowship of believers committed to carrying the light of the Gospel into every home, neighborhood, and corner of the world.

The Mar Thoma Voluntary Evangelists' Association had a humble beginning, with believers interested in evangelistic and intercessory activities assembling periodically for prayer and fellowship. In 1924, the then Metropolitan, Dr. Abraham Mar Thoma, because of his vision, took the initiative and leadership in forming an organization among these believers. Later on, the activities were extended to different parish levels, and the unit of the organization established was named the "Edavaka Mission."

Our Mission

The main objective of the Edavaka Mission is to enable every parish member to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior and to be fruitful as a Christian wherever they are. The motto of the organization is that every Marthomite is an evangelist and must carry on the torch of the Gospel until his or her death.

The Edavaka Mission is a vibrant prayer fellowship that unites every family in faith and service. It inspires spiritual growth, evangelism, and community outreach, and empowers members to live as witnesses of Christ's love.

What We Do

The members of the Edavaka Mission are active in following the seven steps of mission: Bible study, intercessory prayer, sharing experience, serving the sick, prayer group activities, house visits, and evangelism. Monthly prayer meetings, witnessing sessions, and support for evangelical and missionary works in India are regularly arranged. The Edavaka Mission also arranges house visits and extends helping hands to the needy people in and around the parish.

In addition to spiritual activities, the Edavaka Mission at St. Peters is actively involved in charitable giving. Past mission projects have provided support for roofing funds, educational aid, medical aid, and rehabilitation programs — reflecting the belief that true evangelism encompasses both the proclamation of the Gospel and the compassionate care of those in need.

Our Call

The purpose of the Voluntary Evangelists Association is to witness Jesus Christ in day-to-day life. The Edavaka Mission works for the spiritual revival of the church, and every member 18 or over is included — Yuvajana Sakhyam, young couples, Sevika Sangham, and senior citizens alike. Wherever such groups are active, parishes experience joy and spiritual power.

The Edavaka Mission of St. Peters Mar Thoma Church warmly invites every member of the congregation to be part of this great calling — to be a witness, a servant, and a carrier of Christ's love to the world.
