"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." — Proverbs 22:6

Who We Are

The Sunday School of St. Peters Mar Thoma Church, Washington Township, New Jersey, is the Christian Education ministry of our congregation — a vibrant, nurturing, and faith-filled community where the next generation is lovingly taught the Word of God, grounded in the traditions of the Mar Thoma Church, and equipped to live as committed followers of Jesus Christ.

The St. Peters Mar Thoma Church Sunday School is affiliated with the Mar Thoma Sunday School Samajam of the Diocese of North America and Europe, following the curriculum published by the Diocese. Classes are conducted from Nursery to 12th grade, with the curriculum focusing on teaching the Word of God as well as the history of the Mar Thoma Church, including the meaning behind the rituals practiced today. Our Mission

As the Christian Education Department of the Mar Thoma Church, the Sunday School plays an important role in helping children accept Jesus Christ as their Savior and grow in Christian fellowship and worship life. Marthomana The Sunday School aims to develop an understanding of the Bible to provide a strong foundation for Christian living, help children understand that God has a plan for each of them, lead children to a personal commitment to follow Jesus, and teach them to worship through singing and prayer — helping them remain in that commitment and grow.

The motto that guides us is simple yet powerful: "Come to Jesus and Bring Every Child to Jesus."

What We Do

Sunday School begins at 9:00 AM every Sunday with a singing session led by a dedicated Praise and Worship Team. Students enjoy the sing-along session and Bible Jeopardy, which is followed by a short message by students or teachers. The Praise and Worship session ends with general announcements and offertory. Instagram After the opening session, students disperse to their respective classes for age-appropriate Bible instruction and discussion.

The Diocesan examination is conducted in the month of May and students from 5th Grade through 10th Grade participate. Plaques and certificates are given to those who attain good grades in this examination. The regions also conduct competitions in singing, elocution, and Bible quiz.

The Vacation Bible School (VBS) is another key activity of the Sunday School during the summer months, where students have the opportunity to participate in engaging, faith-based learning and activities. Students also participate in various fundraising activities for charities and support missions in India.

Our Teachers

The Sunday School teachers at St. Peters consider it a joy and privilege to serve and pray for the next generation. They are committed to supporting parents in raising children who know, love, and serve the Lord Jesus Christ — infusing them with faith during this crucial stage of their lives and helping them connect biblical principles to their everyday lives.

Sunday School classes are taught by both youth and senior members of the congregation — a meaningful partnership across generations that ensures children are mentored not only by peers but by those who have walked with Christ through the many seasons of life.

A Partnership With Parents

The Sunday School at St. Peters deeply values the role of parents in the faith formation of their children. Our challenge is to ensure that instruction extends beyond just one hour a week — we are called to teach our children daily how to live in love and reverence for God. Our actions speak louder than words, and our children learn from what we model in our own lives. The Sunday School invites every parent to see Christian education not as a weekly drop-off, but as a lifelong partnership in raising children of faith.

Come, Learn, and Grow

The Sunday School of St. Peters Mar Thoma Church warmly welcomes all children and young people of the congregation. Whether your child is taking their very first steps of faith or preparing to graduate and step into the world, there is a place for them here — a place to be known, taught, encouraged, and loved.
