Sevika Sangham

"That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God." — Colossians 1:10

Who We Are

The Mar Thoma Suvishesha Sevika Sangham is the women's fellowship of the Mar Thoma Church, a movement born out of deep faith, sacrificial service, and an unwavering commitment to the Gospel. Founded in 1919 under the leadership of Abraham Mar Thoma Suffragan Metropolitan and headquartered in Thiruvalla, Kerala, India, the Sevika Sangham was established to provide a meaningful platform for Marthomite women above the age of 18 to actively participate in the evangelistic and charitable mission of the church.Over the decades, this organization has grown into a worldwide movement, with branches flourishing in Mar Thoma congregations across the globe.

At St. Peters Mar Thoma Church in Washington Township, New Jersey, the Sevika Sangham carries forward this rich legacy with grace, devotion, and purpose. We are a sisterhood united by faith — women from diverse backgrounds and walks of life, bound together by our love for Christ and our shared calling to serve one another and the world around us.

Our Mission

The Sevika Sangham of St. Peters Mar Thoma Church exists to nurture the spiritual growth of its members, empower women to lead lives of faithful witness, and extend the love of Christ through tangible acts of service and compassion. We believe that every woman has a God-given purpose, and our fellowship exists to help each member discover, grow in, and live out that calling — within the home, the church, and the wider community. We strive to be women who pray with conviction, serve with humility, and lead with love.

What We Do

Our Sangham is active throughout the year with a rich calendar of spiritual, educational, and community-focused programs. We gather on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month and our regular programs include cottage prayer meetings, Bible study sessions, couples conferences, and Bible quizzes. These gatherings are more than events — they are spaces where friendships deepen, faith is strengthened, and women are equipped and encouraged.

Beyond our regular meetings, the Sevika Sangham is actively involved in outreach and mission. We organize fundraising activities such as bake sales and craft auction sales to support mission projects, and we extend financial and practical support to those in need — including assistance with medical needs, education, and humanitarian causes both locally and globally. Our commitment to mission reflects the very heart of the Sevika Sangham — that faith without works is incomplete.

Our Legacy

The Sevika Sangham worldwide now runs many orphanages, schools, hostels, and cottage industry units to help, educate, and empower underprivileged children and women. The local branch at St. Peters is proud to be a part of this greater mission — contributing not just through giving, but through prayer, advocacy, and hands-on service that reflects the transforming power of the Gospel.

We are also connected to the broader Sevika Sangham network through the monthly magazine Vanitha Bodhini, which serves as a source of inspiration, theological reflection, and news from the global Mar Thoma women's fellowship.

Join Us

Whether you are a longtime member of St. Peters Mar Thoma Church or someone new to our congregation, the Sevika Sangham warmly welcomes you. Every woman who walks through our doors is welcomed as a sister, valued as an individual, and invited to be part of something greater than herself. Together, we grow in faith, serve in love, and walk worthy of the calling we have received.

We invite you to be a part of our fellowship — come, pray, serve, and belong.
