"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." — Philippians 4:13
Who We Are
The Yuvajana Sakhyam of St. Peters Mar Thoma Church, Washington Township, New Jersey, is a lively and Spirit-filled fellowship of young men and women dedicated to growing in faith, serving in love, and witnessing boldly for Jesus Christ. The Mar Thoma Yuvajana Sakhyam (MTYS) was formed in 1933 as a result of a resolution of the Sabha Prathinidhi Mandalam, with the view that youth of the Church should accept Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord, and bear witness to His powers.
At St. Peters, the Yuvajana Sakhyam is a cherished and energetic wing of the congregation — a community where young members are nurtured in their faith, rooted in the rich heritage of the Mar Thoma tradition, and empowered to make a meaningful difference in the world around them.
Our Mission
The Mar Thoma Yuvajana Sakhyam was established with the objective of assisting the youth within the Mar Thoma Church in accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. It aims to provide training in worship, foster Christian fellowship, promote active involvement in the Church's mission, uphold Christian values, and organize various events such as camps, meetings, and discussions to enhance youth's understanding of the Holy Bible, the faith of the church, and its practices.
Every activity, every gathering, and every initiative of the Yuvajana Sakhyam at St. Peters flows from this central calling — to raise up young people who are grounded in the Word, connected in fellowship, and committed in service.
Our Four Pillars
The Yuvajana Sakhyam is guided by a four-fold programme that shapes all that it does:
Worship — Gathering regularly to praise God, pray together, and encounter His presence in a meaningful and personal way.
Study — Deepening knowledge of Scripture, the Christian faith, and the traditions of the Mar Thoma Church through Bible studies, discussions, and quizzes.
Witness — Living out and sharing the Gospel boldly in daily life, schools, workplaces, and communities.
Service — Extending the love of Christ through charitable work, mission projects, and hands-on care for those in need.
What We Do
The Yuvajana Sakhyam holds monthly cottage prayers at the homes of members and meets regularly at the church for Bible studies. Members take pride in worshipping, learning about God, witnessing the myriad blessings God has given, and supporting various charitable activities like education aid, medical aid, marriage aid for the poor, aid for various Ashrams, and Disaster Relief efforts.
The fellowship also provides its members various avenues to showcase their God-given talents in contests such as Regional and Zonal Kalamela, Volleyball tournaments, and Christmas Choir singing, as well as leadership development opportunities through membership in decision-making bodies of Regional and Zonal Yuvajana Sakhyam. The Yuvajana Sakhyam caters to the immigrant youth of the parish and organizes cultural and charitable activities, also participating in regional and national youth conferences.
Membership
Members of the Mar Thoma Church who are 12 and up to 45 years of age and willing to sign the application form and fulfill the MTYS objectives are welcome to become members of the Yuvajana Sakhyam. The Sakhyam warmly welcomes all eligible members of St. Peters congregation to join this growing and vibrant fellowship.
Lighted to Lighten
Guided by the motto "Lighted to Lighten," the Yuvajana Sakhyam of St. Peters Mar Thoma Church stands as a beacon of youthful faith and servant-hearted witness.
